About EarthEnable
EarthEnable is a social enterprise working to improve housing conditions for families in rural Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. The organization focuses on making homes healthier and more affordable by providing earthen flooring, plaster, blocks, and other housing products made from natural materials.
Many households in Rwanda live in homes with dirt floors, which can be dusty and unhygienic. EarthEnable develops affordable alternatives designed to improve household living conditions while reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional construction materials.
Its products use natural materials such as gravel, clay, sand, and laterite, combined with a protective finish. According to the organization’s description, its flagship earthen floor is significantly less expensive than concrete and has lower embedded energy.
EarthEnable also creates employment opportunities through its construction and housing activities, helping rural families access improved homes and supporting local livelihoods.
