RATWA SACCO HUYE is inviting applications from qualified and competent candidates for the position of Accountant – Head Quarters. The successful candidate will support the Cooperative’s financial management, accounting systems, financial reporting, reconciliations, taxation, audit activities, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Finance & Administration, the Accountant will be responsible for:
- Performing assigned accounting duties diligently and within required timelines.
- Complying with instructions provided by the employer or authorized representative.
- Properly managing and taking care of assigned work equipment.
- Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information.
- Following the principles and rules governing the Cooperative’s business activities.
- Ensuring that the Institution’s accounting systems comply with applicable accounting standards.
- Verifying the correctness of cash balances and general ledger account balances against carried-forward balances and month-end cash collection and deposit reports.
- Following up on accounts receivable, other collections, and accounts payable.
- Preparing inventories for asset accounts in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Reviewing ledger accounts, monitoring balances for correctness, and preparing interim and annual financial statements.
- Closing books of accounts at the end of each fiscal period.
- Facilitating audit activities by providing auditors with timely financial reports, data, and information.
- Implementing recommendations arising from audits.
- Preparing financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets, and submitting periodic reports to relevant stakeholders, including BNR.
- Reconciling accounts with debtors and creditors.
- Reconciling inter-branch, inter-district, and interbank accounts and investigating reasons for unbalanced or unreconciled accounts.
- Maintaining the share and member register.
- Checking and certifying the correctness of payroll, travel allowances, per diem, and related payments.
- Consolidating financial statements from branches.
- Processing bankers’ cheque requests and transactions.
- Preparing the annual tax declaration.
- Performing other duties assigned by the Head of Finance & Administration or superior authority, provided they are consistent with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualification and Job Requirements
Interested candidates should meet the following requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Proven relevant professional experience.
- Accounting certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) or Banks.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant statutory and regulatory banking compliance requirements, accounting principles, and tax laws.
- Good computer skills and experience with Core Banking Software.
- Strong financial reporting skills.
- Good planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- High level of integrity.
