Scholarship Opportunities for Vulnerable Female Students in STEM & TVET Programs in Rwanda
The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Rwanda, with funding from the Scottish Government through Oxfam under the Inclusive Education Project, has announced scholarship opportunities for vulnerable girls and young women who have successfully completed the national secondary school examination and wish to pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
The scholarship is designed to support vulnerable female students facing social and economic barriers to accessing and completing higher education.
About the Scholarship Opportunity
The scholarship specifically targets vulnerable girls and young women, including young single mothers and females with disabilities, who have completed secondary education.
Particular consideration will be given to girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue and complete their higher education.
Eligible STEM and TVET Programs
Applicants may apply for the following programs:
- Civil Engineering (Highway Technology)
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Biomedical Equipment Technology)
- Mining Engineering (Mining Technology)
- Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics Technology)
Applicants must have obtained the required grades for admission to the relevant program and must have completed secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)-related combination/field qualifying them for the selected program.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Rwandan citizen.
- Be a female aged 18–25 years.
- For applicants with disabilities, the age limit is 30 years.
- Have graduated from high school between 2019 and 2024.
- Be applying as a first-year student.
- Have no previous degree.
Who Is the Scholarship Intended For?
The opportunity is particularly intended for vulnerable girls and young women who have completed secondary education and face social or economic challenges that may prevent them from accessing higher education.
This includes young single mothers, females with disabilities, and applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds.
