Job Overview
Kigali Marriott Hotel is seeking a Restaurant Manager to supervise restaurant operations and support the delivery of excellent food and beverage services. The role involves managing daily operations, leading employees, maintaining sanitation standards, improving guest satisfaction, and helping achieve the department’s financial objectives.
The successful candidate will oversee restaurant and bar operations and room service, where applicable. They will also support menu planning, coach team members, handle customer complaints, and ensure that service standards are consistently maintained.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet one of the following qualification and experience requirements:
- Option 1: A high school diploma or GED, together with at least four years of experience in food and beverage, culinary services, or a related professional area.
- Option 2: A two-year degree from an accredited university in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field, together with at least two years of experience in food and beverage, culinary services, or a related professional area.
Key Responsibilities
1. Restaurant Operations Management
The Restaurant Manager will supervise daily restaurant operations and ensure that service, sanitation, staffing, and financial standards are maintained. Responsibilities include:
- Managing employees and overseeing day-to-day operations.
- Maintaining service and sanitation standards in restaurant, bar/lounge, and room service areas.
- Reviewing staffing levels to meet guest service needs and operational objectives.
- Supporting servers and hosts during busy meal periods.
- Supervising daily shifts in the absence of the Assistant Restaurant Manager.
2. Food and Beverage Team Leadership
The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance to the food and beverage team by:
- Setting clear goals and performance expectations.
- Coaching, mentoring, and training employees to improve their skills.
- Promoting teamwork, mutual respect, honesty, and professional conduct.
- Monitoring employee productivity and supporting continuous development.
- Ensuring compliance with food and beverage policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
- Maintaining food handling, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Monitoring alcohol service in accordance with applicable local laws.
3. Customer Service and Guest Satisfaction
Guest satisfaction is a major priority for this position. The Restaurant Manager will:
- Promote excellent hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere.
- Ensure that food quality, service delivery, and customer expectations are consistently met.
- Handle guest complaints and work to resolve service problems.
- Collect feedback from guests about food, beverages, and service quality.
- Guide employees in responding effectively to guest needs and special requests.
- Implement corrective actions to improve service standards and encourage customer retention.
4. Human Resource Management
The role also involves managing employee performance and development. Duties include:
- Setting performance standards and monitoring staff performance.
- Identifying training needs and organizing relevant training activities.
- Ensuring employees are treated fairly and equitably.
- Supporting employee retention and recognizing good performance.
- Gathering employee feedback and addressing workplace concerns.
- Providing ongoing guidance to help staff meet guest expectations.
5. Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
Additional duties include assisting with purchasing, overseeing invoice payments, evaluating operational information, solving problems, and communicating effectively with supervisors and team members.
The Restaurant Manager will also help ensure that departmental resources are used efficiently while maintaining high standards of service.
