Irembo is recruiting a Quality Assurance Lead to drive software quality, reliability and performance across its digital platforms, with a strong focus on IremboPay.
The role is a Senior Engineer-level opportunity based at Irembo’s head office in Kigali, Rwanda. Irembo develops digital products including IremboGov and IremboPay, with IremboPay providing payment capabilities across multiple channels.
About the Role
The Quality Assurance Lead will be responsible for defining and executing Irembo’s quality strategy, establishing testing standards, expanding test automation and proactively identifying software defects before products reach customers.
The role combines hands-on technical work with strategic QA leadership, including automated testing, performance testing, API testing, CI/CD integration and mentoring QA team members.

Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Quality Assurance
- Define and execute comprehensive quality strategies.
- Own testing standards for IremboPay.
- Act as a key quality gatekeeper for product reliability.
- Ensure software products meet high standards for accuracy, security and user experience.
Test Automation
- Design and build scalable automated testing frameworks.
- Develop automated regression, integration and functional tests.
- Maintain automation frameworks as products evolve.
- Ensure automated testing supports continuous product development.
Performance Testing
- Assess application stability and responsiveness.
- Conduct performance and load testing.
- Test systems under different conditions and high user loads.
- Help ensure optimal performance of digital financial services.
Continuous Testing and CI/CD
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
- Use tools such as GitHub Actions for continuous testing.
- Detect software regressions early.
- Support rapid and stable Agile development cycles.
Functional and Integration Testing
Lead testing across important financial features, including:
- Invoicing
- Dashboard metrics
- Payment simulation
- Microservices
- Payment gateways
- Standard use cases
- Complex edge cases
Shift-Left Quality Assurance
The successful candidate will work closely with Product Managers and Designers during requirements and design stages to identify:
- Ambiguous requirements
- Architectural bottlenecks
- Usability gaps
- Potential quality problems before development begins
Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Lead, coach and mentor QA team members and interns.
- Standardize QA documentation.
- Improve testing frameworks.
- Strengthen defect lifecycle management.
- Promote a strong culture of quality throughout the engineering organisation.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should have:
- Strong cross-functional communication skills.
- Strategic critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail.
- High standards for software accuracy, security and user experience.
- Experience leading QA teams.
- Experience developing end-to-end testing strategies in Agile environments.
- Fintech or payments experience is a major advantage.
- Strong hands-on coding skills for automated testing.
- Experience building and maintaining automated test scripts.
- Extensive experience with API testing tools such as Postman.
- Experience integrating continuous testing into CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
- Experience designing and executing performance and load testing.
- Expertise in bug tracking and defect lifecycle management.
- Experience with Agile reporting and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
