Rwanda Undergraduate Admission Requirements for 2026–2027 Academic Year
The Higher Education Council (HEC) has issued admission requirements for students seeking to join undergraduate programmes at Higher Learning Institutions in Rwanda for the 2026–2027 academic year, beginning in September 2026.
According to the HEC public notice dated 17 September 2026:
Admission requirements
- Candidates who completed secondary education in Rwanda must hold an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education.
- Candidates who completed secondary education outside Rwanda must provide an equivalent qualification.
- Secondary school certificates obtained by 2024 under the previous Two Principal Passes entry requirement will remain acceptable during the 2026–2027 academic year as a one-year transition arrangement.
Important information for applicants
Candidates holding certificates obtained by 2024 under the previous entry requirement should note that, in subsequent academic years, they will be required to obtain confirmation of their results from the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), showing their marks under the current grading system.
Applicants are encouraged to check the admission requirements of their preferred programmes and contact the relevant Higher Learning Institution or HEC for further clarification.
About programme cut-off marks
The HEC public notice available for this summary explains the general undergraduate admission requirements but does not list programme-specific cut-off marks. Applicants should therefore consult the official admission criteria document or the relevant institution for confirmed cut-off marks.
