CorpsAfrica is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join its team as Director of Development. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day execution and management of the organization’s growing fundraising programme, working closely with the CEO and development team.

About CorpsAfrica
CorpsAfrica was founded in 2011 by former Peace Corps Volunteer Liz Fanning with the aim of supporting community development through local changemakers in Africa.
Since launching its first programme in Morocco in 2013, CorpsAfrica has expanded to 11 countries across the continent. Its volunteers have completed more than 800 community projects, including initiatives involving wells, schools, roads, irrigation systems, literacy programmes, and agricultural activities.
Role Summary
The Director of Development will translate organizational fundraising priorities into clear and actionable plans and ensure effective execution across multiple fundraising streams.
The role covers institutional and government grants, individual and major giving, corporate partnerships, events and donor stewardship. The successful candidate will also manage a growing development team, strengthen fundraising systems and accountability, analyse performance data, and support a strong donor experience.
Key Responsibilities
Development Strategy and Execution
- Translate the organization’s fundraising strategy into work plans, revenue targets, timelines and measurable objectives.
- Lead day-to-day execution of the development plan across multiple revenue streams.
- Monitor fundraising activities, priorities, deadlines, pipelines and performance.
- Identify challenges and risks affecting fundraising goals and develop solutions.
- Prioritize fundraising opportunities and align staff resources accordingly.
- Contribute directly to fundraising activities while providing strategic leadership.
- Build systems, processes and capacity to support organizational growth.
Team Leadership and Management
- Manage and develop the growing development team, including direct reports, consultants and external partners.
- Establish clear roles, priorities, goals and performance expectations.
- Promote accountability, collaboration and effective communication.
- Provide coaching, feedback and professional development to team members.
- Establish regular pipeline reviews, progress monitoring and planning processes.
- Support future recruitment and expansion of the development team.
Fundraising Operations, Data and Performance
- Establish and monitor fundraising metrics and KPIs.
- Maintain effective pipeline management and revenue forecasting.
- Oversee the effective use of Salesforce and related fundraising systems.
- Develop dashboards and reports for leadership visibility into fundraising performance.
- Strengthen fundraising processes, calendars, workflows and documentation.
- Work with Finance and other teams on revenue tracking, grant management, budgeting, reporting and reconciliation.
CEO and Board Fundraising Support
- Serve as an operational partner to the CEO and Board on fundraising activities.
- Prepare donor and prospect briefings, proposals, presentations and other materials.
- Coordinate timely follow-up after donor meetings and cultivation activities.
- Support high-value donor and prospect relationships.
- Strengthen Board participation in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Track Board fundraising commitments and Give/Get expectations.
- Prepare fundraising updates and pipeline information for Board and Development Committee meetings.
Collaboration Across CorpsAfrica
The Director will work closely with the Director of African Philanthropy, country leadership, programme teams, Communications, Finance, Monitoring and Evaluation, and other departments to develop funding opportunities, proposals, donor communications and fundraising materials.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- At least 7 years of progressive fundraising and development experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated experience across institutional and foundation giving, individual and major gifts, corporate partnerships, government funding, events and donor stewardship.
- Experience translating fundraising strategy into practical plans, systems, priorities and measurable results.
- Experience managing, coaching and developing fundraising staff.
- Demonstrated contribution to significant fundraising growth, including substantial gifts, grants or partnerships and six-figure opportunities.
- Strong knowledge of fundraising operations, pipeline management, forecasting and donor stewardship.
- Strong data and metrics capabilities.
- Experience with Salesforce or a comparable fundraising CRM.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional judgment when working with senior leadership, Board members, donors and partners.
- A hands-on, solutions-oriented approach.
- Ability to manage complex fundraising activities with limited oversight.
- Commitment to CorpsAfrica’s mission and community-led approach to development.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
