WB-ROK Scholarship Opportunities 2026 for Master’s and PhD Studies in South Korea
The World Bank – Republic of Korea (WB-ROK) Scholarship Program is now open for qualified applicants seeking Master’s and Doctoral degree programs in South Korea. This prestigious scholarship aims to support talented students and professionals from developing countries to pursue advanced education in leading Korean universities and contribute to sustainable development in their home countries.
Scholarship Overview
The WB-ROK Scholarship offers fully funded postgraduate study opportunities in some of South Korea’s top universities. Each year, up to 50 scholars are selected to participate in this highly competitive program.
Successful applicants will study in fields that support development priorities such as engineering, health sciences, data science, technology, and applied research.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected scholars will receive comprehensive financial support, including:
- Round-trip economy airfare
- Full tuition coverage by Korean universities
- Korean language training program
- Living allowances
- Academic program funding
Financial support includes approximately:
- 14.1 million KRW per year during the Korean language program
- 15.7 million KRW per year during the graduate degree program
- Additional Korean language training stipend of 1.3 million KRW
Participating Universities
The program includes more than 70 Korean universities, categorized into two groups (Type A and Type B). Some of the notable universities include:
- Seoul National University
- Korea University
- Yonsei University
- KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology)
- Sungkyunkwan University
- Hanyang University
- POSTECH
- Kyung Hee University
- Ajou University
- Incheon National University
Applicants must check the specific requirements and programs offered by each university before applying.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s applicants) or a Master’s degree (for PhD applicants)
- Be a citizen of a World Bank eligible country
- Have a minimum CGPA equivalent to 80% or top 20% of their class
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Be under 40 years old (or under 45 for academic professors)
Applicants must also obtain a recommendation letter from a World Bank partner university.

- Applicant Agreement
- Medical Assessment
- Academic transcripts and graduation certificates
- Proof of citizenship and family relationship

Additional optional documents include language test results such as TOPIK or English proficiency tests.
Application Process
The application process involves several stages:
- Announcement of guidelines – Early February
- University application submission – Mid-March to April
- First round selection by universities
- Second round evaluation by NIIED
- Final scholarship announcement – Expected in late June
Applicants must submit their application directly to the Korean university they choose. Applications sent to other institutions will not be considered.
Important Notes
- Applicants can apply to only one university and one department.
- All documents must be apostilled or consular confirmed.
- Scholars must complete a one-year Korean language program before starting their degree unless exempted by advanced TOPIK scores.
