Job Description
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Division Manager Planning, the GIS Specialist will be responsible for:
- Identifying and advising on appropriate geospatial data innovations and technologies.
- Supporting the design and development of geospatial databases.
- Working with relevant staff to conduct geospatial analysis.
- Providing training and technical support for digitizing appropriate thematic geospatial information.
- Managing a centralized geospatial database system and its operations.
- Compiling data for statistics to be incorporated into institutional documents and reports.
- Advising NAEB on appropriate online and mobile maps for public and commercial consumption.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet one of the following academic and professional requirements:
Option 1
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography or Architecture.
- Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in a similar position.
Option 2
- Master’s degree in Geography, Cartography or Architecture.
- Minimum of three (3) years of working experience in a similar position.
Key Competences
Candidates should have:
- Extensive knowledge of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).
- Working knowledge of GIS software and equipment, including plotters, GPS devices and digitizers.
- Strong GIS skills using two or more GIS packages and Web GIS.
- Solid computer skills.
- Knowledge of databases and Management Information Systems (MIS).
- Experience in coordination exercises and data management.
- Good listening skills.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Fluency in English and/or French.
