Trinity Musha Mines Ltd, a mining company involved in the production and exploration of Tin, Tantalum and Lithium in Rwanda, is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the position of Mine Supervisor.
The Mine Supervisor will oversee and coordinate daily mining activities, ensuring that operations are conducted safely, efficiently and according to production and quality requirements.
About the Mine Supervisor Position
The Mine Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day mining operations within an assigned area. The position involves coordinating mining activities, supervising employees, enforcing health and safety requirements, monitoring equipment and production, maintaining operational records, and reporting operational performance to management.
1. Supervision of Mining Operations
The Mine Supervisor will:
- Coordinate drilling, blasting, excavation, hauling and ore-processing activities.
- Allocate manpower, equipment and materials to improve productivity.
- Monitor production schedules, equipment performance and ore grades.
- Support Mining Team Leaders in achieving daily production targets.
- Take appropriate measures when production targets are not achieved.
- Enforce codes of practice, instructions, procedures, directives, permissions and exemptions issued by the Mine Manager or an authorized person.
2. Health and Safety Compliance
The position requires strong attention to workplace health and safety. Duties include:
- Inspecting all other workings within the assigned area at least once every week.
- Maintaining discipline among employees under supervision.
- Providing and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Identifying hazards and assessing associated risks.
- Implementing and enforcing safety procedures and regulations.
- Conducting safety inspections and hazard assessments.
- Supporting safety training for mining personnel.
- Investigating incidents and near misses.
- Reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Ensuring compliance with SHEC laws, regulations and policies.
3. Equipment and Infrastructure
The Mine Supervisor will:
- Oversee maintenance and repair of mining equipment, vehicles and infrastructure.
- Schedule preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Help minimize equipment downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams and suppliers.
- Support procurement of spare parts, components and consumables.
4. Personnel Management
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring employees follow HR policies and procedures.
- Providing employees with necessary information, instructions and supervision.
- Considering employees’ skills and training when assigning duties.
- Ensuring workers receive appropriate job training.
- Identifying staffing requirements within the assigned area.
- Supervising and mentoring operators and labourers.
- Promoting teamwork, motivation and professional development.
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback.
- Addressing disciplinary matters in accordance with HR procedures.
5. Environmental Compliance
The Mine Supervisor will also support environmental compliance by:
- Ensuring mining activities comply with environmental regulations, permits and standards.
- Supporting appropriate waste-management practices.
- Implementing erosion-control and water-management measures.
- Supporting land rehabilitation and environmental restoration activities.
6. Data Collection and Reporting
The Mine Supervisor is required to maintain accurate shift records in the logbook, including:
- Every working place or other working place inspected during the shift.
- Unsatisfactory conditions observed or reported, particularly concerning ground conditions and employee safety.
- Instructions issued to protect the health and safety of persons under their supervision.
The position will also provide regular reports covering Production, HSEC, Security and HR to the relevant Section Team Leader or Site Manager.
The Mine Supervisor will prepare operational reports, dashboards and presentations highlighting key performance indicators, trends and challenges.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Mining Engineering.
- At least 3 years certification in mining from a competent mining school, as stated in the advert.
- At least 3 years of experience in the mining field.
- Physically fit.
- Excellent communication skills, with English preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Good supervisory skills.
- Ability to delegate duties to workers effectively.
- Strong teamwork spirit.
