Women for Women Rwanda (WfWR) is a national organization dedicated to supporting women and girls in Rwanda to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion by enabling them to become socially and economically empowered. Through its programs, the organization promotes sustainable livelihoods, leadership development, financial inclusion, and community transformation.
Position Summary
Women for Women Rwanda is seeking a qualified and motivated Economic Empowerment Officer to support the implementation of economic empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of women participants, graduates, self-help groups, and cooperatives.
The successful candidate will provide technical support, coordinate training activities, facilitate business development initiatives, strengthen market linkages, and support women in achieving economic self-sufficiency through income-generating activities and entrepreneurship.
Key Responsibilities
Program Planning and Implementation
- Support the planning and implementation of Economic Empowerment projects and programs.
- Coordinate economic empowerment training sessions and activities.
- Assist graduates and women’s groups in implementing their action plans.
- Support the registration and strengthening of women’s cooperatives.
- Coordinate projects related to agriculture and agribusiness from planning through implementation and reporting.
Capacity Building and Training
- Organize Economic Empowerment trainings.
- Prepare and conduct Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions for consultants.
- Train women in Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) methodologies.
- Support VSLA digitalization and financial inclusion initiatives.
- Build the capacity of self-help groups and cooperatives through leadership, governance, conflict resolution, and business management training.
Business Development and Market Linkages
- Assess market opportunities and support the development of new business initiatives.
- Build partnerships and connect women’s groups with relevant stakeholders and markets.
- Promote off-farm employment and income-generating opportunities.
- Support business development and market assessments.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Field Support
- Conduct regular field visits and verification exercises.
- Compile reports, plans, success stories, and best practices.
- Monitor the progress of graduate groups and cooperatives.
- Maintain records of training materials, equipment, and inventories.
- Support fundraising initiatives related to Economic Empowerment projects.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Agribusiness, Economics, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience, preferably within an NGO or development organization.
- Strong understanding of gender issues and commitment to promoting gender equality.
- Experience in training, facilitation, business development, and market linkages.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Basic knowledge of accounting, costing, and financial management.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Working knowledge of Kinyarwanda (French is an added advantage).
- Good understanding of Rwanda’s social, economic, and political context.
