Job Purpose
The Digital Instructor will deliver hands-on digital skills training to youth from refugee and host communities.
The training will focus on practical competencies that can help learners access employment, freelancing, and remote-work opportunities. The instructor will also provide mentorship, support project-based learning, and help learners develop portfolios that demonstrate their practical abilities.
The role is also expected to support inclusive participation, particularly by helping ensure that women and girls have meaningful opportunities to participate in digital skills programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
The Digital Instructor will:
- Facilitate foundational and intermediate digital skills training.
- Teach areas such as coding, web fundamentals, AI-assisted tools, no-code platforms, and digital productivity.
- Use competency-based and learner-centered teaching approaches.
- Design project-based learning activities.
- Help learners graduate with practical portfolios rather than relying only on certificates.
- Introduce modern digital tools, including AI assistants, cloud collaboration platforms, version-control tools, and design software.
- Adapt training content for learners with different abilities and levels of previous technology exposure.
- Support multilingual learning environments.
Mentorship and Learner Support
Responsibilities include:
- Providing individual and small-group mentorship.
- Monitoring learners’ progress.
- Assessing learners’ readiness for internships and remote work.
- Supporting increased participation of women and girls.
- Working with Field Assistants and relevant support teams to reduce barriers to participation.
- Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Encouraging peer learning among participants.
Quality and Coordination
The successful candidate will also:
- Maintain accurate attendance records.
- Maintain learner assessment and progress records.
- Support donor reporting and MEAL requirements.
- Contribute to curriculum reviews.
- Work with partners including the Rwanda ICT Chamber, STEM Power, and employer partners.
- Help ensure training tracks remain relevant to labour-market demand and Rwanda TVET standards.
- Support graduation ceremonies, demo days, and employer-facing showcases.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- ICT
- Education
- Or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience teaching or delivering digital or coding skills.
- Experience working with youth or in non-formal learning environments is desirable.
- Strong practical knowledge in at least one of the following:
- Web development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Programming fundamentals
- Digital productivity and AI tools
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Kinyarwanda.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience or qualifications are an added advantage:
- Experience working with refugees or underserved communities.
- Experience in humanitarian programmes.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted development.
- Experience with no-code or low-code platforms.
- Familiarity with freelancing marketplaces.
- TVET certification.
- Trainer certification.
