Code for Africa (CfA) African Academy for Open Source Investigation (AAOSI) Fellowships 2026
Overview
The AAOSI Fellowships 2026 are open to journalists across selected African regions. These fellowships are offered by Code for Africa (CfA) to build capacity in open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) to support evidence-driven investigative reporting and strengthen information integrity.
Purpose
The programme seeks to:
- Enhance democratic accountability by equipping journalists with advanced digital investigation skills.
- Strengthen digital resilience, security, and information integrity in media and civil society.
- Support efforts to tackle disinformation, hate speech, propaganda, and coordinated inauthentic behaviour online.
Fellowship Details & Benefits
Duration: 4 months in 2026.
Number of Fellows: Six journalists will be selected.
Support Provided:
- Monthly stipend to cover expenses.
- Hands-on training and one-on-one project mentorship from data technologists, analysts, and multimedia producers.
- Publishing support – Fellows will publish their work on their media platforms and receive help for broader reach and syndication.
Eligibility
Applicants must:

- Be based in one of the eligible African countries (including the Sahel, West Africa, and East Africa).
- Have at least one year of journalism experience, ideally in investigative or data journalism.
- Show proof of recently published work.
- Be affiliated with a media outlet or organisation where the work can be published.
- Commit to regular online training and mentorship.
- Be fluent in English or French.
Target Regions/Countries
Applications are accepted from journalists in:
- Sahel region: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, Senegal
- West Africa: Benin, Cameroon, Guinea, Togo
- East Africa: Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan
