Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support MINEMA’s advanced early warning system and disaster prediction initiatives through data analysis, GIS mapping, and predictive modeling.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Coordinate field data collection for disaster prediction validation
- Analyze geological, meteorological, and historical hazard data
- Assess vulnerability of communities and infrastructure
- Process and interpret disaster risk quantifications
Data Integration and Management
- Ensure seamless integration of stakeholder API data
- Support hazard risk mapping and exposure analysis
- Maintain efficient data processing workflows
Model Calibration and Risk Analysis
- Calibrate disaster prediction models
- Generate early warning messages and risk probabilities
- Improve system thresholds and predictive accuracy
- Coordinate technical review meetings with modeling experts
Dashboard Development
- Design and maintain disaster risk dashboards
- Present real-time risk analysis and system insights
- Support strategic decision-making processes
System Enhancement and Innovation
- Improve disaster prediction models and methodologies
- Apply emerging technologies and best practices
- Collaborate with GIS and modeling specialists
Communication and Capacity Building
- Disseminate warning messages and alerts
- Train stakeholders on early warning system functionalities
- Collect operational feedback from responders and communities
- Support disaster risk mitigation initiatives
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Master’s Degree in Mathematical Modeling
- Engineering Physics
- Natural Sciences
- Geology
- Meteorology
- Related relevant fields
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in GIS and numerical/data modeling
- Experience in disaster risk management or environmental modeling is highly valued
- Practical experience with predictive modeling systems
Required Technical Skills
Candidates should demonstrate strong expertise in:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- ArcGIS products and raster analysis
- Python programming
- Data analysis and automation
- Hazard risk mapping
- Disaster modeling systems
- API integrations and dashboard development
Experience with geospatial certifications is considered an added advantage.
