Job Summary

KARISIMBI SACCO NYABIHU is seeking a qualified and experienced Internal Audit Officer to support internal audit activities, assess internal controls, identify weaknesses and risks, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and auditing standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual audit plans based on areas with potential risks to the SACCO’s assets.
• Ensure that internal audit guidelines and principles are properly followed.
• Identify and report weaknesses in daily operations that could lead to theft, embezzlement, misuse of funds, or other irregularities.
• Maintain records of audit findings, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the SACCO’s internal audit and control systems.
• Identify strengths and areas requiring improvement and recommend corrective actions.
• Assess whether accounting practices comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and relevant regulations of the National Bank of Rwanda.
• Verify that financial and operational information is complete and reliable for decision-making.
• Ensure that the SACCO’s activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze the causes of identified problems and support the implementation of corrective measures.
• Maintain confidentiality and perform other duties assigned by the Senior Internal Auditor or management.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least 3 years of experience in auditing.
• Good understanding of microfinance, banking, and accounting practices.
• Knowledge of auditing standards, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Strong risk and internal control awareness.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Professionalism and integrity.
• A professional qualification in auditing is an added advantage.
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Core Banking Software.
