Coffee Cupping and Processing Specialist at NAEB

NAEB is seeking highly motivated, qualified, and results-driven professionals to join our dynamic team in the position of Coffee Cupping and Processing Specialist
Reporting to: QA and Regulatory Division Manager
Job Summary:
This specialist will provide technical leadership in coffee quality assurance, from post-harvest processing to final cupping. The role involves supervising a team of cuppers and ensuring the highest standards for Rwanda’s coffee exports.
Qualification and Experience:
- Option A: Master’s degree in Agronomy, Biotechnology, Food Science, Chemistry, or Agri-business.
- Option B: Bachelor’s degree in the fields mentioned above.
- Must hold valid Q-Grader and Q-Processing certificates.
- For Option A: 3 years of experience in coffee post-harvest facilities and 3 years in coffee cupping/quality assurance.
- For Option B: 5 years of experience in coffee post-harvest facilities and 5 years in coffee cupping/quality assurance.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills are essential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the cupping team and oversee sample collection, coding, roasting, and cupping.
- Ensure proper documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory accreditation.
- Develop and coordinate training programs for coffee cuppers.
- Conduct professional sensory evaluation (cupping) following SCA and CQI standards.
- Inspect coffee post-harvest facilities (washing stations, warehouses, dry mills).
- Prepare narrative, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Coordinate the “Best of Rwanda” and other coffee competitions.

- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Fluency in English and/or French.
