Mechanical Engineer Job in Kigali – Q-Sourcing

Q-Sourcing Servtec is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer for a full-time position in Kigali, Rwanda. The role focuses on the design, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning and maintenance of mechanical building services and infrastructure systems.

The position is suitable for a qualified mechanical engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical building services, particularly HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.

Job Overview

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will provide mechanical engineering expertise for the design, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning and maintenance of mechanical building services and infrastructure systems.

The position will involve reviewing technical designs, supervising contractors, inspecting installations and ensuring that mechanical works meet approved designs, quality requirements and applicable safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Systems Design

The successful candidate will:

• Design and review mechanical systems for buildings and facilities.
• Review HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, pumping and related systems.
• Review contractors’ mechanical drawings and technical submissions.
• Ensure mechanical designs meet applicable requirements and standards.

2. Installation Supervision

Responsibilities include:

• Supervising mechanical installations.
• Ensuring contractors comply with approved designs and quality requirements.
• Inspecting mechanical works during installation.
• Identifying construction or installation defects.
• Recommending appropriate corrective actions.

3. Testing and Commissioning

The Mechanical Engineer will:

• Inspect and test mechanical systems.
• Monitor commissioning activities.
• Monitor performance testing.
• Confirm that installed systems operate as required.
• Support the successful completion and handover of mechanical works.

4. HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection

The role requires experience with building mechanical services, including:

• HVAC systems
• Plumbing systems
• Fire protection systems
• Pumping systems
• Related mechanical building services

The engineer will review these systems and monitor their installation, testing and performance.

5. Quality and Compliance

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical standards.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Check installations against approved designs.
• Identify defects and recommend corrective measures.
• Support quality control throughout mechanical works.

6. Technical Reporting

The role also includes preparing:

• Technical reports
• Project documentation

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Relevant professional registration where applicable.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical building services.
• Experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or related systems.
