Position Overview
The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the full on-site delivery of the African Conservation Academy construction project in Akagera National Park. The role includes managing contractors, ensuring compliance with design specifications, controlling project costs, monitoring timelines, and ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Project and Budget Management
• Oversee execution of construction works in line with approved plans and timelines
• Monitor project expenditures and support cost control to avoid budget overruns
• Track procurement activities and ensure timely availability of materials and equipment
Site and Construction Oversight
• Supervise daily construction activities and subcontractors on site
• Ensure proper coordination of labour, materials, and equipment
• Manage sequencing of construction activities for efficiency and quality
Coordination with Consultants
• Serve as the main liaison between contractors, architects, and engineers
• Ensure all works align with design specifications and technical drawings
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
• Enforce health and safety standards on site
• Ensure compliance with building codes, permits, and environmental requirements
• Monitor quality of workmanship and materials used
Reporting and Communication
• Provide regular progress reports on project status, risks, and performance
• Communicate site issues and recommendations to stakeholders
• Ensure transparent and timely communication with project leadership
Documentation and Project Close-Out
• Maintain accurate site records and project documentation
• Support inspections, commissioning, and final handover processes
• Ensure completion of all as-built documentation
Qualifications and Experience
• Proven experience in construction project management or site management
• Experience managing large-scale or multi-building construction projects
• Strong knowledge of construction planning, budgeting, and scheduling
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Safety certification such as OSHA or equivalent preferred
• Valid driver’s license required
• Experience in environmentally sensitive projects is an advantage
