Job Purpose
The Midwife (Maternity Cover) will contribute to improving the quality of services in the Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Reproductive Health (MNCH & RH) department, including Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) services, for the refugee population in Mahama Camp through the provision of quality primary healthcare.
Reporting Line
Reports to: Head of MNCH & RH
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Antenatal Care (ANC)
- Welcome and receive all pregnant women attending ANC services.
- Conduct screening in line with ANC protocols and national guidelines.
- Identify pregnancy risk factors and refer appropriately.
- Provide iron supplementation and ensure TT immunization as per protocol.
- Accurately complete ANC registers and ANC cards.
2. Postnatal Care (PNC)
- Screen lactating women according to PNC guidelines.
- Provide Vitamin A supplementation as required.
- Offer reproductive health, nutrition counseling, and breastfeeding education.
- Refer caregivers to the EPI department for child immunization.
3. Family Planning & Post-Abortion Care (FPPAC)
- Provide family planning services in accordance with national guidelines.
- Educate clients on available FP methods and support informed choice.
- Screen FP clients for STIs and related complications.
4. Delivery Room & Emergency Obstetric Care
- Conduct normal deliveries following standard guidelines.
- Monitor labor using a partograph.
- Manage obstetric emergencies in collaboration with doctors and medical staff.
- Identify, stabilize, and refer complicated obstetric cases.
5. Infection Prevention & Control
- Apply international infection prevention and waste management standards.
- Ensure aseptic techniques during RH service provision.
- Sterilize and disinfect delivery and obstetric instruments.
6. Health Education
- Provide group health education in reproductive health waiting areas.
- Offer one-to-one health education during consultations.
7. ASRH Services
- Provide clinical services at Youth Friendly Services (YFS) including FP, OPD, and VCT.
- Supervise Community Facilitators and Peer Educators.
- Deliver ASRH education to youth.
8. Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager within scope and competence.

Qualifications
- Registered Midwife.
Experience and Skills
Essential Requirements
- Diploma in Midwifery with a valid license recognized by NCNM Rwanda.
- Experience working in PHCUs, health centers, or hospitals.
- Strong communication skills (English, French, and Kiswahili preferred).
- Training in MNCH & RH.
- Previous experience with Save the Children is an added advantage.
Desirable Requirements
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda, English, and French.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in MNCH & RH.
- Experience in humanitarian settings.
- Practical experience in ANC, PNC, Family Planning, and ASRH services.
